What is Laser Therapy?

laser-therapy-painLaser therapy is a safe, pain-free therapy conducted by applying light (photons) to a painful or inflamed area of the body. Using the energy from photons emitted from the laser, your body works to repair damaged cells and return to its normal function. Better than simply masking symptoms, the goal of this therapy, like my other functional medicine therapies, is to get to the root of the issue.

Benefits from laser treatment therapy include:

  • Alleviates or eliminates pain and other symptoms
  • Reduces the need for pharmaceuticals
  • Improves mobility
  • No adverse effects
  • Acceleration of healing

Who Does Laser Therapy Help?

Laser therapy treatments help a variety of musculoskeletal problems, joint pain, sports injuries and dermatological conditions. Some of the most common conditions treated include:

  • Back pain & neck pain
  • Repetitive stress injury
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Rotator cuff tendonitis or tear
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Temporo-mandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ)
  • Ligament and tendon tears
  • Sprains, strains and fractures
  • bulging and herniated discs
  • Contusions/swelling
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Knee pain
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Calcifications (e.g. bone spurs)
  • Scars & burns

What to Expect During Laser Therapy Treatments

Upon evaluating your needs, a treatment plan will be created. If laser treatments would be beneficial, the number of treatments will be dependant upon the injury. Typical injuries can expect 3-10 sessions, whereas complicated and deep-rooted pain may take upwards of 20 treatments.

Many patients report improvements after a couple of treatments and when done in conjunction with supplements and herbs, you can continue to support your body’s natural repair mechanisms.
